Social Enterprise Mapping Europe

Tasks and goals

The project “Update of the mapping of social enterprises and their eco-systems in Europe”, funded by the European Commission, was executed in Germany and more than 20 other European countries.

It was coordinated by EURICSE and EMES Network. Responsible for the German report were the University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt and the Centre for Social Investment (CSI). The goal was to update the 2014 report on social enterprises commissioned by DG Employment, Social Affairs, and Inclusion (see REPORT) since the European Commission continues to prioritize the future of a social enterprise. Various stakeholders awaited the mapping of the diverse European social enterprise landscape with interest and it should in particular give direction to political support for social entrepreneurial activities.

Approach

We use stakeholder consultation, primary research, and new analyses of secondary data to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive landscape of social enterprises in Germany, with a particular focus on cross-European comparability.
